We support family members towards improving the health of their partnerships or relationships with others and themselves.
Our Family Support Program offers customized support and services for individuals, co-parents, children and families who may be experiencing unhealthy co-partnerships or dysfunctional family member relationships.
Our Family Support Team
We’re here to support co-parent partnership functionality.
Our Family Support Team has extensive training, and experience inclusive but not limited to working with family dynamics and/or individuals who have experienced/are experiencing family violence (physical abuse, verbal abuse, emotional or psychological abuse, financial abuse, neglect, coercive control, sexual abuse, spiritual abuse etc.), substance use/misuse, intimate partner violence, mental illness, poverty, homelessness, court-involvement, a variety of neurotypes (neurotypical and neurodivergent family members), court-involvement, child protection involvement and/or law enforcement involvement.
We understand that there are many reasons why family dynamics can become unhealthy. We also recognize that everyone coming into our program is dealing with stress, fear, emotions, and concerns. Our team takes a omni-partial, child-focused, family systems approach to conflict reduction and improving partnerships as well as relationships. We work collaboratively to support each family with customized and adaptable approaches. We work within a consent framework. Repairing family relationships or supporting family members when a resist / refusal dynamic is present requires customized, and compassionate care. It also requires professionals that understand the dynamics that contribute to a family member choosing not to speak to or see another family member.
We understand that you may feel a strong sense of urgency to get started. Many of the families we work with have faced a long journey filled with challenges, agency involvement, and court processes before reaching us. We often hear that clients see our program as their last hope, while others may feel hesitant. One thing we consistently hear from everyone is a shared concern for the children, even if the nature of those concerns differs. We are a team dedicated to supporting you and your family through this challenging time. We're here to work with you, not against you. While we understand frustrations may arise, we ask for basic respect for our team at all times. It's important to note that we’re not working for you individually, but to support your entire family—this is a key distinction. Additionally, our approach is rooted in a consent-based framework, as healthy relationships—and the possibility of healing—require consent and the absence of coercion.

Commonly asked questions
-
Commonly we see children whose trust in professionals (and engagement in therapeutic support) has been eroded by the removal or discontinuation of therapists, counsellors and support team members on a consistent basis.
The experiences that children have with mental health and helping professionals shape the trajectory of how they will or will not engage with these supports in their lifetime. We hold that responsibility close to our hearts.
Our team members that work with children do so in a consent framework. This means there are no surprises, and there is no force. They empower children to identify and articulate their own thoughts, and needs.
Children are never placed in an adult decision making role, and they are insulated from co-parent conflict in our program. They are however included in a child-inclusive model. This means that considerations necessary to support them are put forward and advocated for by their counsellor/professionals on our team.
-
The word “reunification” assumes that there isn’t a relationship between a parent and a child. There is always a relationship between a parent and a child. The health of that relationship can be impacted by a variety of circumstances and factors.
We do work with parents and children to improve the health of their relationship.
Healthy relationships require consent, compassion, support and the absence of coercion. Our team works with each family member to understand the factors that are impeding a healthy relationship and carefully works with them to understand the impact, and take steps to support improvements.
-
We often work with family members who have been “ordered” to attend counselling or a program to support their family. It’s understandable that you may be apprehensive, and worried about the steps ahead.
Our team has extensive training and experience working with families that may have experienced intimate partner violence, family violence, coercive control, substance use/misuse, poverty, homelessness and trauma.

It’s generally expected that family members follow their court orders. That said, it is important to understand that family support often is more successful at shifting family dynamics than litigation.
